Between Two Worlds: A Concert of Russian-Jewish Music

The Concept

Alongside the "hits" of Jewish music, the programme will feature works that are almost never performed on the concert stage: pieces by Mikhail Gnesin, Mikhail Milner, and Joseph Achron, who worked in St. Petersburg more than one hundred years ago.

Music by Yuli Engel from Yevgeny Vakhtangov's legendary production The Dybbuk will also be heard, as well as a piece by Giora Feidman from the film Dybbuk. And, of course, music by our contemporary Leonid Desyatnikov, who celebrates his 70th anniversary this year.

The Dybbuk by Semyon An-sky, a mystical play written in St. Petersburg, once deeply impressed Konstantin Stanislavsky, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Maurice Béjart, and the Coen brothers. It is therefore no coincidence that so many musical associations are connected with it.
