The Concept

Concert idea: to bring together in one concert works of the 20th century connected through the theme of folklore, reflecting folk motifs, rhythms, and modes combined with a bold and innovative musical language.

The main sphere of interest of the composers featured in this concert is the musical traditions of Eastern Europe and Transcaucasia. At the same time, each composer uses experimental techniques and makes this music modern not only for its own time, but also for today.

Igor Stravinsky's The Soldier's Tale paired with Rodion Shchedrin's virtuosic Quadrille for cello and piano. The Armenian-coloured Trio by Arno Babajanian and Contrasts by the great Hungarian Béla Bartók.

Finally, Variations on the Obtaining of a Dwelling and Sketches to Sunset by Leonid Desyatnikov, our contemporary who has already become a classic.
